L.A. in Higher Education

L.A. is a huge base for higher education. There are no less than 215 institutions of higher learning in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. Among them:

California Institute of Technology: Ranked at 2000 as best University in the nation and 4th best in 2001, also has the highest percentile in SAT scores of any University in the nation.

University of California Los Angeles - ranked as the 3rd best Public University in the nation and 25th best university in the nation by U.S. news and world report.

University of Southern California - Ranked as 35th best University in the nation.

University of California Irvine - ranked 10th best Public University in the nation.

Other interesting facts:

-the Pasadena Art Center college of design is good enough for Automobile design that most of the major automobile manufacturers ( esp. U.S. and Japanese ones) have an design center around (19 in total), creating many of the automobile designs found today.

-the LAC USC Medical center, in affiliation with the USC School of Medicine, is one of the largest medical teaching centers in the nation and is known internationally.

-the UCLA Medical center is known worldwide for its innovation in healthcare. It is consistantly ranked as the best hospital in the Western United States, and about 120 of its physicians are cited in The best doctors in America . This also means that it is also one of the largest medical teaching centers in the nation.
